During the Ahmedabad Serial Bombings Case of 2008, 38 Defendants Were Condemned to Death, while 11 Were Sentenced to Life in Prison

Under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, a special court constituted for the prosecution of the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bombings’ case sentenced 38 of the 49 defendants to death. Those convicted of the crime were sentenced to life in prison without parole. Individuals murdered in the blasts were awarded Rs 1 lakh in compensation by Special Judge AR Patel. It is also worth noting that those who were severely injured received compensation of Rs 50,000, while those who had minor injuries received Rs 25,000.
The only individual convicted under the Arms Act and one of those executed was Usman Agarbattiwala, who was also sentenced to a year in prison for his conviction under the Arms Act.
